About Hakuho Foundation

Message from the Chairman

Enhancing child education hand in hand with educators at the frontline.

Hakuho Foundation took its first steps at the gateway to the 1970s—a time when Japan's population first topped 100 million and when Expo '70, which became a symbol of the country's rapid growth, was held in Osaka. Close to half a century since then, Japan has become a mature society, one of the first in the developed world to confront low birth rates in tandem with an aging population. Yet no matter how much the world and social structures may change, some values remain constant in every age. One of these is the importance we place on ensuring a future full of potential for children and on giving them the education they need to prepare for that future.

Over the years, Hakuho Foundation has supported teachers and researchers involved in child education in their efforts to nurture human qualities in children, tomorrow's leaders. Our mission is to build bridges. Bridges between children and knowledge and passionately held ideas. Bridges between research findings and the frontlines of education. Bridges—through the medium of Japanese language—between children in Japan and their peers around the world. And solid bridges connecting children's potential with tomorrow. This desire is embedded in our new logo.

In April 2011, Hakuho Foundation made a new start as a public interest incorporated foundation. As we strive to realize self-supported governance and highly transparent operations befitting our new role, we will work hand in hand with those involved in child education to create new values in education and to open up the way to a future of hope for children—tomorrow's leaders. We look forward to your continuing understanding and support for our activities.
